PAPERBACK

In this excerpt, Nicholas Spanner and Tianna, two intrepid detectives from the year 2150, make an accidental jump through time. Arriving in a time alien to them, they are confronted with a Los Angeles quite different from the one they know.

SPANNER EXCERPT

Spanner and Tianna were still heading for what they thought was Los Angeles circa 2150, but somehow nothing seemed quite right, and their expressions were beginning to show it. After a moment, Spanner put one of his puzzlements into words.>

I don't get it. I can't see City Dome one at all now, and we're even closer than we were last night.

Tiana frowned. Are you certain we're still on the same road?

At this point, I'm not certain of anything. Why?

It appears narrower, she said. Even the composition seems different.

Spanner gave a harder look. You're right. It does. The area looks about the same…but still…

It's odd that Mayhew didn't come looking for us, said Tianna. Our client knew we were supposed to meet him.

Give him a call.

Tianna twisted her multicom ring and tapped the number on his holographic screen. Nothing happened, except for the faint sound of static.

I can't seem to reach Police Central, said Tianna. Either my multicom ring isn't working, or…

Or what?

She didn't answer at first, for her attention was focused on the road ahead.

Is that a…an antique car?
